Creating Archive Mail

Creating Archive Mail

1.  Determine if the user wants to back up to CD or Glory (I usually tell them that glory is     periodically backed up.)

2.  If they are staying on the local machine you can skip this -
Create a folder on their glory space called Local Mail or something like that.

3.  Netscape -
Go to Edit: Mail & Newsgroup settings: Local Folders
Browse to the folder on H: that you created (for Macs, be sure to emphasize they        will need to log into glory before they open mail to have access to this folder)
Click Ok.  You will need to log out of mail and restart.

   Thunderbird -
Go to Tools: Account Settings: Local Folders
Browse to the folder on H: that you created (for Macs, be sure to emphasize they will need to log into glory before they open mail to have access to this folder)
Click Ok.  You will need to log out of mail and restart.

4.  Move folders 1 at a time to the local folder (Drag and drop).  Verify that all your messages have transferred over.  As a test, I have them log out and relog in again to test that the folders and messages show up.  Then you can delete the original on GCMail.

5.  If they want to just burn a CD... Navigate to either the Glory folder you created or the local folder (you can find by following the path found in step 3).  Place a CD-R or CD-RW in the drive (hopefully it is a burner) and drag your folders to the CD.  Make sure you get all the folders with the same name.  Once all folders are there you want to archive, Burn the CD.  Be sure to label it as to what archives are on it.

6.  To restore from an archive just copy the files on the CD back out to the Local Folder.  Log out and relog back in.  Your folders should be restored.
