Outlook 2007 setup

The steps to setup Microsoft Outlook as your email client are the same for an
individual or a service account. The server settings are similar to Thunderbird.

Set Up Your Profile:

  1. Open Microsoft Outlook.
  2. At the Outlook 2007 Startup Wizard window, click the Next button.
  3. At the Account Configuration window, select the radio button next to Yes and click the Next button.
  4. At the Add New E-mail Account window, check the Manually configure box at lower left and click the Next button.
  5. At the Choose E-mail Service window, select the radio button for Internet E-mail and click the Next button.
  6. In the Internet E-mail Settings window:
  • In the User Information fields, enter your full name and your full E-mail address.
  • In the Server Information fields, select IMAP under Account Type and enter the appropriate Incoming mail server URL as follows:
    • If the email account will be used at Chandler-Gilbert, District Office, Estrella
      Mountain, Paradise Valley, or South Mountain, use email1.dist.maricopa.edu
    • If the email account will be used at [GateWay], Glendale, or Phoenix College, use
      email2.dist.maricopa.edu
    • If the email account will be used at Rio Salado, Scottsdale, or Mesa, use
      email3.dist.maricopa.edu
  • In the Outgoing Mail Server field, enter <site>mail.maricopa.edu (for GCC - gcmail.maricopa.edu)
  • In the Logon Information area at the User Name field, enter your full e-mail address.
  • If the checkbox next to Remember Password displays a checkmark, click in the checkbox to
    deselect it. Leave the Password field blank.
    Click on More Settings. (lower right)
  1. Click the Advanced tab (far right).
  2. In the pulldown menus next to Use this type of encrypted connection:, select SSL for the Incoming Server (IMAP) and none for the Outgoing Server (SMTP). After selecting these encryption types, the Incoming Server should display Port 993 and the Outgoing Server Port 25.
  3. Click OK. When you are returned to the Internet E-mail Settings page, click Next.
  4. At the Congratulations window, click the Finish button.
  5. When you start Outlook again, you will get this login window:

  • The Maricopa Directory will need to be set up to interface with Outlook to address emails.

Set Up the Maricopa Directory

  1. From the Tools Menu select Account Settings.
  2. In the Account Settings window, click your account to highlight it (only required with more than one account) and then click the the Address Books tab (far right).
  3. Click the New... icon under the E-mail tab (far left).
  4. Make sure the Internet Directory Service (LDAP) radio button is selected and then click Next.
  5. Enter the server name, which is: <site>ldap.maricopa.edu, and click the More Settings...button.
    • The <site> is your two or three-letter abbreviation for your college location.
  6. A warning dialog box will display informing you that you must restart Microsoft Outlook
    in order for the directory to work properly. Click OK
  7. The Microsoft LDAP Directory window will display. In the Display Name field, type in:
    Maricopa Directory.
  8. Click the Search tab.
  9. You can change the search time allotment when searching for names in the directory;
    the default value is 60 seconds.
  10. You can also specify the maximum number of entries that will return from a search;
    the default value is 100 entries.
  11. In the Search Base section, make sure the Custom radio button is selected and enter the following into the field:
    ou=administration,o=maricopa community college district,c=us
  12. Click OK.
  13. Click the Next button and then the Finish button.
  14. From the File Menu, select Exit to close Outlook.
  15. Restart Outlook: From the Start Menu, select All Programs and then select Outlook. It would be convenient to create a shortcut on your desktop.
