General Information about Dropboxes

Dropboxes are special purpose folders that are designed to allow students to securely submit assignments to their instructor(s). Similar to a payment dropbox, once an assignment has been submitted to an eGCC dropbox it can no longer be viewed, retrieved or modified by anyone other than the instructor(s). Dropboxes are created only upon request.

How to access dropboxes from your personal or eGCC workstation
  1. If you are working from an on campus eGCC workstation, the S: drive will be automatically mapped for you. If you are working from your personal computer, follow the Windows or Mac OSX instructions below to map the S: drive.
  2. Once the S: drive is mapped, navigate to the course folder containing your dropbox using Windows Explorer or the OS X Finder.
  3. Drag and drop your assignment into the dropbox folder. You will not be able to see a directory listing of the dropbox folder to verify that your document has been submitted. To verify, try to drag and drop your assignment again. If you were successful the first time, an alert will pop up stating something like 'unable to add file to folder, file with same name already exists.'
  4. Remember that once documents are submitted you no longer have access to read or modify them.

How to map the S: drive from a non-eGCC workstation

Windows XP

  1. Double-click on "My Network Places" which should be located on your desktop.
  2. Under the Heading "Network Tasks" on the left side of the "My Network Places" window, select "Add a network place". When the "Add Network Place Wizard" launches, click next.
  3. Select "Choose another network location" and click next.
  4. You should now be prompted to enter the "Internet or network address:" of the new network place.
  5. Enter https://files.gccaz.edu/shared in the "Internet or network address:" text box then click next.
  6. You may be prompted to login. Enter your eGCC username and password and click ok.
  7. A new shortcut will be created with the name "shared on files.gccaz.edu." You may rename the shortcut if you wish. Click next.
  8. Select Finish. You may be prompted to login again. Enter your eGCC username and password and click ok if you are.
  9. You are finished. From now on, in Windows Explorer under "My Network Places", you should see the shortcut you just created. Simply double-click on this shortcut to gain access to your S: drive data.

Macintosh OSX

  1. First, follow the instructions and understand the warnings on this other wiki page: MacOSXWebDAV. Then proceed with the next step.
  2. From the Finder, select "Connect to Server" from the Go menu.
  3. On the screen you should see Connect to Server wizard. In the text box, please enter the following server address: https://files.gccaz.edu/shared/courses/. Then, select "Connect".
  4. In the resulting box titled "[WebDAV] File System Authorization", please enter your eGCC (Palette) username and password then select Ok.
  5. A window will be opened displaying the file directories available to you in the shared space.
