WebScribe

WebScribe is a form-based content manager for template based web sites on GCWeb. Its strengths include allowing many pages of prepared content to be organized very quickly into a navigable web site including standard template features. It automates certain features such as an alphabetical index page and allows various layout tricks that are hard to manage traditionally, such as timed announcements, internal searches, etc., while allowing common features such as tables, floating boxes, links and so on to be incorporated with more ease than working with HTML code. It also allows an individual or department to set up their own "staff" (including students) to share the maintenance of the site or to work with varying levels of access. The primary drawback of WebScribe is that as a template-driven application designed primarily to reduce the technical demands of working with large, informational web sites, it is not for those who wish more flexibility in the template design or significant variations in the navigation scheme; i.e. it is not for those who put a priority on individualizing the broad design of the site from the ground up and who prefer to design and edit pages in the traditional manner, such as with Dreamweaver.
