Environmental Club Meeting - Sept. 30, 2009

September 30, 2009 (meeting conducted from 12:09 -1:08)

People Present: Hussein Shaban, Yusef Shaban, Katerina Warda, Amanda Lam, Jairo Tellez, Karina Banuelas, Claudia Mares, Beatriz Campos, Beverly Lucchi, Austin Mitchell, Ricardo Hernandez, Jennifer Norby, Alicia Yantes, and Dr. Harris.

Webpage

  1. Amanda has the webpage started
  2. She sent the link to Dr. Harris and she will email the members the link to give feedback
  3. Dr. Harris will talk to Theresa Hindlings to help with the Club website
  4. Dr. Harris has the secretary of the PS building helping to find how to link the website

Recycling Boxes

  1. Hussein went to talk to Al Gonzalez for the approval of the boxes but he was not there
  2. He will not be back until Oct. 14th, 2009
  3. Hussein will talk to Al’s substitute as well as set up a meeting with Al when he returns
  4. We will have the boxes in one building the PS building (as a pilot) (the East wing of that building)
  5. The boxes will have our club logo

Club minutes

  1. Katerina does not have access to the Wiki this semester.
  2. Christine Moore has offered to put in the minutes for us
  3. Katerina will send the minutes to Christine as well as Amanda Lam

Budget

  1. Club Budget is due October 23rd, 2009
  2. Amanda will submit everything to ASG

Problems here at Glendale Community College

  1. High Tech. Center should be getting printers to print front/ back
  2. Beverly will talk to Greg Rogers to see why the computers are not set as draft
  3. Parking is another issue - there should be more carpool areas so people realize there are benefits
  4. Grass on Campus – why is there so much grass
    1. We need to compare the water and air conditioning bill to see if the grass is useful because grasshelps keep the air cooler, so if both bills are low than the grass is useful
  5. Claudia suggested having the homepage as black for the search engine will help use up less energy

Austin Mitchell

  1. Talked about the community service with Ameri Corps, called S.L.I.C.E.
  2. He handed out information on joining the service group and how the group goes to California to help out

Community Service

  1. Everyone in the group decided that he/she would like to help the community out that would be environment related.
  2. Katerina was going to connect Joanne Toms from the Water Conservation Office for volunteer times
  3. Amanda Lam talked about what Pre-Pharmacy Club did last semester, which was adopted a street and clean it up. She said that olive 67th- 59th is free to adopt and perfect because it is part of Glendale Community College
