[GoalQuest]/GCC Unplugged

David can liaison with site administrators for Alan to be added as user to promote the Environmental Club. Alan could then create a personal profile to direct traffic to the [MySpace] page he plans to create for the club.

David suggested also exploring the possibility of contacting, through [GoalQuest], prospective students as well as first year students.

Lee Ann suggests contacting Suzanne Higgins about doing follow-up story on Green Efforts highlighting creation of Environmental Club.

Communications

Green Tips - Tip of the Week with coming event, and daily leading up to big events.  Mary invites fyi's of articles for average citizen interest.  She will send out Lee Ann's map image of recycling bin locations.

our Webpage: RSS and links of interest, Pushpa's newsletter

Calendar of events on webpage

Ad hoc carpool calendar idea

  • Dolly and Jeff suggest carpooling to those who are reserving college vehicles
  • Joe Wells, student, might have computing expertise to help mashup existing calendars and contacts?  (Christine will contact)
  • MJO will contact Eric at MCLI

Recycling

Cardboard bins must be emptied by employees into the recycling bins.  Mary will urge in Green Tip that each building identify staff who will be responsible.

M&O research cost-wise: $20,000 for start up compactor

proposal based on research for expanding recycling to all things: cardboard, plastic, wood, glass

City of Glendale will work with us, but won't do confidential shredding. Still need Weyerhauser

Foundation for the Blind will do it all for us, but negotiations are just getting going.  Al has to submit proposal for this (add'l data still needed).  Lee Ann is trying to apply for ADEQ grant (due March 6) for start up costs, but just found out that they require an institutional match of $ for 50% (half of which must be cash- the rest can be in-kind).

MJO urges a press release to campus to get everyone to understand what things are in the works.

help us by taking it with you.

Campaign through Green Tips

what doing now - Lee Ann's map

Who said you can't take it with you?  (get picture of Carmela?) Encourage faculty to collect water bottles from students in class.  Robert will contact company that uses water bottles (CM will get co. info to Robert) that we can make money from it.  We'll figure out collection points.  We'll need to involve Regis.

further future  - proposal in the works

Joe and Lionel are doing leadership project with Robert and want to focus on recycling.

Documentation - let's document / log / attempt to quantify our unofficial efforts (like how many bottles we collect from students; how many trips to the recycling bin per week/whatever) so our info can help inform admin planning to sustain these efforts.

President's Climate Commitment - ask Dr. Green again to sign - provide a checklist of what has already been done as indicated on the Commitment pledge.  When we reapproach her, present our vision for the future.  A list of what we want to make sure will go forward.

  • raising temps in bldgs
  • no neckties
  • recycling
  • bring in Siemens, the German firm, to conduct an energy audit (paid for out of savings acting on the recommendations; Mary notes that MCC is encountering difficulty with contracts and legalities through district)

Robert urges all of us to start creating a list of our own "pet projects" to build this vision for the future/goals for greening GCC.

David suggests posting our vision for the future this in some way to have employees and students sign on as well.  From Green Efforts site we can create a webform page for people sign on (and then print a list to accompany the document to Dr. Green).

Earth Day / Arbor Day in same week

event - have a few things going on

next mtg: 2/22 at 1pm in SU123B.
