Green Efforts at GCC - January 18, 2008 Meeting Minutes
1. Review our Program by Session
For each program/talk/session, please let us know what is needed/how to help:
- Signage to put up - Mark Floor, Mike in media dept, will put up signs on campus (have 6 sandwich boards)
- Sign in sheets for students (may be getting credit for class); may need one for each speaker. Sign in at end of talk only. Ken Bus will have a sign in sheet for each showing of 11th Hour. We need to do the same for all other speakers.
- List of Cell Phones: everyone signed up on a phone list
- Chairs, 'Gophers' (students?) Provide phone numbers to speakers/vendors in case they get lost
- E-mail dl-secretary list next week - ARIEL will do this
- Request Bios of speakers, especially Panel Discussion - each person should get the bio from the speaker they invited
Monday-Friday: Jan. 28-Feb. 1 - student voting online, calculate C footprint, consumer consequences
- Doris will have signs up directing to HT buildings and directions within buildings for the computer activities
- They will offer the green pins when people sign the pledge to be green and will ask for a donation which will go into a fund for Green Efforts, they have a locked money box
- Signage & Gaucho TV - MARK
- signs by computers in SU, Hi Tech centers and library directing students to vote, calcuflate C footprint, etc.
- we will solicit student questions for the Panel Discussion
- We need to ask students for questions in class and add to the wiki - Mary will add to the green tip email.
- Collect at front & back entrance to Hi tech, or Online
- Wednesday & Thursday: Student activity table = CO2 demo, computers for voting and C footprint. RUN by Kim and Robert
- Phi Beta Kappa is going to plant a tree on campus and have a table showing their current efforts to buy water pumps in Africa
- carpooling information? Ride your bike for a prize (give them a free pin)?
- Food - ROBERT (some problems) Need a final monetary figure for the Wed dinner - Robert will get final cost, if it is too much we will simply have snack food
- Recycling - can we bring our own cans to campus to collect recycling Wed and Thurs? It would show how much waste we produce
Wednesday:
- Vendors 9 AM-2 PM MARY JANE and Mark, campus security will direct them onto campus, will put labels on each table so vendor can find their spot, MJ will call all our vendors and give her number as the contact number (Mark then will take the phone on Thurs)
- Student activity table (STEM, bio students) 9 AM-2 PM - Robert in charge
- Voter Registration - Weds/Thurs Day & Evening; Fri am DOLLY
- Music 5:00, Doug N. & Percussion Ensemble - CHRISTINE EIDE
- Dinner or snack food at 5:30, Round Table Seating! ROBERT
- Webcast 2% Solution Live at 6 PM at GCC ROBERT and Chris Miller - connection sent to Jeff & Joe; helpers with student sign in sheets? Signs?
- Immediate discussion to follow: Faculty/Student panel?
Thursday:
- Guest speakers: 9:00-1:00 PM - MARY H. Mary will have sign in sheet for students that attend the morning talks.
- Melanie still needs a ride. Mary will follow up with her.
- Vendors 9 AM-2 PM (Wednesday & Thursday) - Chris Miller / Mark.
- Student Activity Table 9 AM-2 PM KIM
- Organic food options (potato bar) at cafeteria for lunch
- Music 5:00, Lotchmo Drom: gypsy jazz - CHRISTINE EIDE
- 5:30 Appetizers/Snacks, Round Table Seating - ROBERT Panel Discussion with Student Questions - CHRISTINE MOORE;
- Student sign in sheets - Jeanne will bring one
- Each panelist will speak about 5 minutes in their area, then the panel will be open to audience questions
- Question bank: all questions will be collected and the committee will add if needed
Friday:
- 9:00-Noon GCC speakers & student activities - ERIK GERGUS WILL GOPHER and Kim will bring sign in sheets
- Noon/Lunch: Roundtable discussion and Action Plans ROBERT
- 2:00 STEM An Inconvenient Truth - KIM SMITH in SU 104E
OTHER Focus the Nation:
- My Map - ARIEL (photos: Kim's display, Doris/OP. Green)
- Goal Quest? Ariel?
- Campus calendar of events - Mary will look into this, also district and mcli
- Send e-mail to other campuses - particularly for 11th Hour - Ken did this
- Let's get our event into GCC 'Voice' - Mary Jane will look into this

- Bio-Tour usually gets about $1000 donation for the tour which involved an all day agenda
- Trip-Reduction incentives - Anyone? Bike contest? Bus ticket drawing?
- Grants for Future change on campus? Peter Schoenthal, Theatre Technician; called. Wants to swap-out theater lights to energy efficient fixtures & bulbs; directed to me by Chuck Jeffery. Part of a Grant opportunity? Siemens?
