You can use either evoca
or odeo
to record your introduction to this essay. These two websites work in a similar fashion. First, create an account. It's free! You can keep it private. If you plan to call your introduction in, provide the phone number of the telephone you'll be using. (I think it's like Caller ID, so it has to match). Odeo asks you to create a PIN number.
If you have a microphone on your computer, use that. I think it produces a little better quality. If not, you can use your a phone (cell phone or land line) to "phone it in." In most cases, using a cell phone will just charge the call against your minutes; if you use your land line, this may count as a long distance call.
If you'd like to record your introduction and don't have a microphone, go to the library (the media center at the east side of the building) and ask for Scott Kozak. He'll help you get set up.
Write your introduction and practice reading it out loud a couple of times before you record it. Follow the instructions on the audio site.
After you're happy with your recording, open a new window and go to the submission page for the class Zine.Create a new entry in the section for Electronic Surveillance Products. Create your title. Paste the text of your introduction into the scroll box.
Return to the evoca or Odeo web page. Click on the file name of your audio. You should see a bunch of HTML code in a little scroll window. (In evoca, scoll down to the bottom of the page.) In evoca, use the first set of code, for a website. In Odeo, use the second box that contains the code, not the first one. Copy all the code in the window and paste it into the Zine at the very top of the paste box (before your introduction). Save your submission.
In the editing window in the Zine, scroll down to the bottom of the page and use the Preview link to see how it works. I will get a copy in my email, and I will publish this part of your draft right away!
See my example (using both evoca and Odeo) or Kelly's intro (using evoca). Cool!
