Richardson, Will.  Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts and Other Powerful Web Tools for Classrooms.  Thousand Oaks, CA:Corwin Press, 2006.

This book is an accessible overview of the features of the new "read/write" web specifically geared for teachers.  It contains some excellent sections on the pedagogy of each tool and examples of how each one can be used in classes, as well as a good list of references at the end.  Some of the issues addressed are of more interest to secondary schools (Internet safety, parental permissions, etc.), but the examples are excellent, and many of the ideas could easily be used in college courses.

Rossen, Steven and Susan Ko.  Teaching Online: A Practical Guide.  2nd ed.  Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 2004.

This is a good, comprehensive overview of the pedagogy and technologies employed in teaching online.  Read it once to get started, and then refer back to it for specific suggestions.  Read it again after your first semester of teaching online!

Waterhouse, Shirley.  The Power of eLearning:  The Essential Guide for Teaching in the Digital Age. Allyn & Bacon/Merrill, 2005.

This is a practical, no nonsense guide for teaching online.  The chapter, "Six Steps to Getting Started," is especially helpful.  See these websites:  www.shirleywaterhouse.com and http://elearnglobal.com
