This page is sparked my my visit to Vassar's Sistine Chapel and to the Botanical Garden in SL, and by two conversations I have had recently about effective activities in SL.  Edit at will.  It's a wiki!

Is our space only effective if there is a crowd?  Then how do we get people there synchronously?

  • A conference, a class meeting, a concert, a dance -- scheduled and announced (promoted)
    • ooh. cool idea, a dance in the SU, under the stars . . . but I need more dancing lessons!
    • for Labor Day?  Fireworks, a band, dancing, refreshments, etc.
  • Need spaces that will accommodate the crowd  (good that we have those terraces in our SU in SL)
  • A large number of people is the draw -- well, maybe with fun things to do or see . . . like fireworks next 4th of July?

Is our space only effective for a small group (3-6) people?  Then how do we manage access?

  • Divide larger groups into separate spaces within seeing but not chatting distance? (Like Maali's campfire spaces and the groupings in the SU)
  • Is the "draw" external?  Is there a project or a goal in RL that can be completed in SL or in RL? (Brainstorming, planning, etc.)
  • Is the "draw" internal?  Is there a project of goal that can only be completed in SL? (Practice [JT's casa], a game, a puzzle)
    • Doing something together as a small group (a game or activity that requires or is improved by a group).

Is our space effective when just a single person is there?  [True of shops, vending machines, etc. and places where silence or isolation doesn't matter or is the point.]

  • Is there something to do?  Is it always the same or is it always changing?  (my flags in the pen, JT's casa)
  • Is the "experience" the point?  Sensation, perception, silence, observation, movement (CD's elevator?)

Tools:

  • when we get voice, I'd like a voice recorder and then the options to convert voice to text and then to convert text to voice.  I could use these in the Writing Pen as editing tools.
  • Can we have a radio (ie. audio files) playing?  I wonder if Grammar Girl would let us play her broadcasts in SL.

More ideas?
