Townsend Press Reading Scholarship Program

Announcing the Townsend Press Reading Scholarship Program

Townsend Press is offering cash scholarships to developmental college students who read a number of paperback books during the current semester. To be eligible, a student must be enrolled as a full or part-time student at a two or four year college. The student must also be taking a developmental course in reading. (ESL courses do not apply.) The books must be read by the end of the current semester and no later than six months after the start of the contest.

Steps to join this program.

  • Go to the GCC Library Media Center and check out one of the Townsend Press paperback books in the Literacy Library. Use the following url to search for Townsend Press titles  http://lib.gccaz.edu/lmc/collections/literacy/index.html or use this link to browse all Townsend titles (including the popular Bluford Series - if you want to view only Bluford titles, delete "Townsend or" from the search box).
  • Read the book.  If you take up reading the Bluford Series, please know that reading them in order is best (characters reappear throughout the books).  Here is the list of Bluford titles in order.
  • Contact one of the TP Reading Program monitors (Book Buddy).
  • Meet with the monitor and discuss the book you have read to verify that you have read the book.  Your name and book will be recorded.
  • Check out another book.
  • Repeat the steps above.

Awards

  • Ten books completed - $ 100
  • Twenty books completed - $ 200
  • Thirty books completed - $ 300
