h3.FileMaker Server 8
The FileMaker 8 databases are housed on a Windows 2003 server running FileMaker Server 8. Users in the local *fsmadmin* group are able to administer the FileMaker services and environment. The FileMaker Server is basically two services: (1) *FileMaker Server 8*, which provides access to the FileMaker databases, and (2) *FileMaker Server 8 Helper*, which provides the remote client connections to the *FileMaker Server 8* service.

Note: Stopping the second service disables client access, but continues to allow local access to the databases.

h3.Database Access
Access to the databases is controlled by membership in local groups. Most of the databases have groups that provide full access, modify access, or read-only access. Adding or removing a user's access is as simple as adding or removing the eGCC username to or from the appropriate group.

h3.Modifying Group Membership
Launch the *Start | Programs | Administrative Tools | Computer Management* tool. Expand *Groups* in *System Tools | Local Users And Groups*. Scroll down to the appropriate group and double-click on it. To remove a user, select one or more from the list and click *Remove*. To add a user, click *Add*, type in the first few letters of the username, and click *Check Names*. If only one name is found, it will fully qualify it for you. If more than one is found, you will need to pick the correct username from the list. If no username is found, you will get a *Name Not Found* pop-up --- try again.

h3.Backups
FileMaker Server backs up the databases to a local folder every three hours. These files are, in turn, backed up by ArcServe. Barring disk failure, a typical database restore can easily be done on any of the databases from the local backups.

h3.Further Details
See the attached PDF manuals and the Help Manual (*fmserver.chm*) located in *C:\Program Files\FileMaker\FileMaker Server\AdminResource\English* on the server.
