eGCC is GCC's nationally renowned system of customized network accessible tools for students and faculty. Students can login to virually any computer on campus at any time and have access to over 250 applications customized by their instructors for the courses they are registered for. Course folders are spaces on the network that can be shared by specific groups of users. These folders can be course-specific, section-specific, or accessible by multiple groups.
h2. *Welcome to the new computing environment at Glendale.  This information applies to all users of Instructional Technology at GCC.*
Over the summer, the GCIS Group (including the Office of Information Technology, the Innovation Center, Training & Employee Development, and Instructional Computing) designed and are now implementing a new computing environment for the college. As promised, this environment maintains the functionality of the Instructional Palette while enhancing security and stability. In order to differentiate the new environment from the old, we are using "*eGCC*" as a working title. Computers using the Instructional Palette system in computer labs and classrooms on campus have been moved to this new environment.  While many of the tasks have been completed, work will continue into the fall.  This has been a massive upgrade.  Please be patient while the wrinkles get ironed out.

h2. More Details about the New Environment
*If you are a Student* who uses a computer in a lab or classroom on campus or GCC computing resources from home, find more details about the upgrade and how it pertains to you here: [eGCC Guide for Students].
h2. Softricity (now Microsoft) Softgrid

Part of the new environment includes a new application delivery system called Softricity Softgrid.  End users will launch applications the same as they always have. Softgrid allows applications to be deployed and maintained more easily, while simultaneously allowing the desktop image to be reduced to one-third of its previous size.  Sequencing and provisioning of applications with Softgrid will occur primarily during the first week of accountability, with the following week reserved for addressing any issues that might arise.

[MacIntosh]Users in the new environment will have simplified access to their Home space (H drive) and Shared Space, though they do not use Softgrid. To read more about Softgrid technology, please refer to the [GCC Voice article|http://www.gccvoice.com/home/index.cfm?event=displayArticle&ustory_id=93ecda10-d235-4120-aebc-3440ed9c9ce6&page=1].
