Communication is a 2 way street, talking and listening. There can be a distinction between hearing, listening, comprehending etc. One does not follow from the other in a straight line.
Just as in written communication, it is important to understand one's audience and tailor how one delivers the message such that the audience has the greatest chance of receiving the message intended.
Some delivery of oratory is purposefuly intended to confuse, wow, awe and overwelm rather than to deliver a message or information. To do this effectively one also has to know something about one's audience. Some orators do this on a regular basis to elevate their own status, they need to be disabused of this concept, as the audience who is most easily impressed by being bowled over is likely not full of those whom one really does want to impress.
The art of communication, it is an art not a science, involves as much listening and questions of clarification as it does planning one's next words. An exercise illustrating many of these concepts.....
